Financial Statements

Financial statements are the formal records of a company's financial position, performance, and cash flows, prepared in accordance with accounting standards (IFRS or local GAAP). The three primary financial statements are the balance sheet (statement of financial position), the income statement (profit and loss), and the cash flow statement. Together with notes and disclosures, they provide a comprehensive view of a company's financial health and are the foundation for external reporting, tax compliance, investor communication, and management decision-making.

Why This Matters

Financial statements are the baseline of financial communication. Every external interaction — with auditors, banks, investors, tax authorities, or potential acquirers — starts with financial statements. For mid-market companies, the ability to produce accurate, timely financial statements is non-negotiable. Beyond compliance, they are also the starting point for management reporting and analysis — the raw material from which performance insight is built.
